Mark Mueller – Modern Journalism Opening: Friday, October 2, 2009 6 -11PM Free (Show runs through 10/25/09)
“Modern Journalism” reflects the landscapes of our industrial neighborhoods in a style that is reminiscent of the early American Modernists who affirmed the power of human beings to create, improve, and reshape their environment with the aid of scientific knowledge, technology and practical experimentation. In this instance, Mark Mueller uses “Modern” to reference the optimistic superficiality of our time and “Journalism” to explain the occasionally negative cynicism that passes for nostalgia.
Mueller’s industrial facades are bent with cubist perspective into lyrical constructions and muted abstract expressionism out of graphite, oils and lead.
