UNDER THE BLOOD-RED SUN

Emma Larkin

[A selection of works from 2019-2025]

Emma Larkin is a Seattle based multi-media artist. Interested in the interplay between the diverse and often conflicting realities that coexist in the world, her work explores liminal spaces; moments of human connection or transcendence, artefacts of pivotal experience, the border between the dreamed and the real, the figural and abstract. A focused interest in the science of perception and human consciousness underpins a deeply tactile and process-driven studio practice. Layers of paint pile up like strata in soil, figures emerge in ghostly form. And above it all burns the one inescapable truth of our shared existence, something strong but tender- an acknowledgement of a common fallibility, vulnerability, and simultaneous validity -  the beauty in our imperfect worlds colliding.

Born in 1990 in Toronto, Canada, Emma’s early life was defined by a simple and nomadic existence that encouraged solitary habits and sparked a profound fascination with ‘ways of being’. After completing a Bachelors Degree with a double major in painting and sculpture and a minor in Philosophy at Brandeis University in 2011, she spent six years in India and Turkey continuing her investigation of human habits and nuances of perception while beginning a career in Tattooing. Art on skin and canvas has continued to be a lifelong focus for Larkin, the two disciplines tied together by a keen experiential awareness and the inescapable habit of creating.
